The PicoVNA E-Cal modules are SOLT (Short, Open, Load and Thru) devices with USB controlled selection switching and loading of appropriate and extensive characterisation data. The devices are temperature controlled and are supplied within a convenient carry and storage case along with a characterised and polarity marked port adapter to extend calibration flexibility to two female or to male and female test ports.
Features and benefits
Many users of a vector network analyser prefer an automated calibration solution. Automation brings speed, efficiency and simplification to the calibration process and in doing so, tends to promote more regular and reliable calibration. Automation can therefore improve overall calibration quality and even reduce uncertainties or errors.
Used with the PicoVNA 106 & 108 an E-Cal module achieves calibration automation to full published specification. You simply power the module, make a dual port connection of the E-Cal standard between the PicoVNA test ports, and then initiate the automated procedure from within the PicoVNA user interface. The devices are temperature controlled, but will be ready to go by the time connections are made and correctly torqued.
Applications
PicoVNA E-Cal calibration standards are for use with PicoVNA 106 & 108 vector network analysers. Like the VNA they are USB controlled by the PicoVNA 3 MS Windows user interface software. This SMA(m) male ports E-Cal unit can be used to automatically calibrate single or dual port VNA measurements for which female SMA, PC3.5 or K-type test ports are being used. This is known as a "non-insertable" test set-up. Pico also includes with the E-Cal module a fully characterised and polarity marked SMA(f-f) adapter. This can be used to extend full specification usage to an "Insertable" male and female test port set-up.

Female and dual gender E-Cal devices are also available. For users or applications requiring fixed and manually applied calibration kits, Pico supplies SOLT (Short Open Load and Thru) calibration kits in SMA and PC3.5 of male and/or female gender.
