RS PRO Various Colour PLA 3D Printer Filaments

The RS PRO 3D Printer Filament is a Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plastic made from renewable natural resources and one of the most popular materials for 3D printing. Plastics such as PLA are the most popular 3D printing material due to its simplicity, dimensional accuracy and low cost. PLA can be printed at a low temperature and does not require a heated bed and is one of the most environmentally friendly filaments available. PLA is a tough, easy to use high-grade PLA type of filament, ideal for 3D printing. Slightly modified, the filament retains the typical features of PLA but makes it tougher and less brittle. Due to a low shrinkage factor, PLA will not deform after cooling.

  • Please note: We can’t guarantee the specific filament colours that will be supplied, therefore this is an excellent option when a specific colour isn’t required

  • Features and Benefits

  • Tougher and less brittle compared to regular PLA

  • Easy to print at low temperature

  • Low warping

  • Limited smell unlike other filaments

  • Good tensile strength and surface quality, easy to work with at high print speed

  • User-friendly for both home and office environments

  • PLA filament allows the creation of high-resolution parts

  • Due to the low shrinkage factor, PLA will not deform after cooling

  • Hardens quickly

  • Minimal thermal tension

  • Minimal deformation

  • Applications

Filaments used in conjunction with 3D printers can create an endless number of objects and are used in various industries from medical to retail. 3D printing filaments are available in a variety of colours and materials including ABS, PLA, Resin, Nylon and more, providing endless possibilities to suit your needs. 3D printing filaments are can be used for numerous projects such as:

  • Household tools

  • Educational

  • Prototyping

  • Architectural models

  • FAQs

What material can be used in 3D Printing?

Various materials can be used for 3D printing which includes:

PLA, ABS plastic, polyamide (nylon), glass filled polyamide, stereolithography materials (epoxy resins), silver, titanium, steel, wax, photopolymers and polycarbonate.

    Why Use PLA?

PLA (Polylactic Acid) filament is favoured in a wide range of industries for its versatile properties and selection of colours. PLA is a bio-degradable product, allowing it to naturally break down in a few months unlike other plastics that can take many years. As well as being non-toxic and environmentally friendly, PLA filament is very easy to print with making it a highly versatile material to print with.

How should I store the filament?

Once you have purchased your filament, it is important to store it correctly to maintain its quality. Over time the plastic will absorb moisture from the air, creating small water bubbles in the filament. These bubbles when heated in the extruder nozzle quickly reach boiling point, spoiling the print. The use of desiccant dehumidifiers to absorb the moisture is highly recommended.
