RS Pro Fully Insulated Double Crimp Receptacle Terminals

From RS PRO a high-quality fully insulated crimp receptacle terminal sometimes known as a female quick disconnect. Female crimp receptacles are a type of electrical wiring connector which, when mated with a male tab connector (or male quick disconnect), provide a fast and reliable interconnect between two wires. The body of the connector is made from tin plated brass and features an additional internal copper sleeve. This copper sleeve strengthens the barrel and provides a robust and secure crimp. The sleeve also protects the wire against stress and high vibration. The main feature of this female receptacle is the insulation which covers the entire length of the connector body. This insulation provides protection against electric shock and acts as a ’mini’ enclosure to protect the connection from dirt, grease, liquids and other contaminants when mated.

What is a Crimp Receptacle Terminal?

A crimp receptacle terminal is a solder-less electrical connection and is used to terminate stranded wire by inserting the stripped end of the wire into part of the terminal. This terminal is then compressed around the wire.

Crimp Terminals from RS Pro

• Provides quick and easy connection and disconnection
• Fully insulated for protection against electrical shock and shorting from exposed leads. Also provides protection to the electrical connection
• Double crimp design with an internal copper sleeve for added strength and robust crimp joint
• Tin plating for resistance to corrosion, added strength and excellent conductivity
• Colour coded insulation for easy identification of terminal size
• Funnelled insulation design allows easy wire insertion

From RS Pro, a range of fully insulated double crimp female receptacle terminals made from brass with a copper sleeved barrel and flared vinyl or nylon insulation. These can be used as an electrical crimp connector or as cable crimps, crimp pins or any other types of crimping terminals. These shrouded female receptacle crimp connectors are colour coded for use with different wire sizes and accept various tab sizes.

What are the different types of tab sizes?

• Red 0.5 - 1.5 mm²
• Blue 1 - 2.6 mm²
• Yellow 2.5 - 6.5 mm²"

Application information

Crimp terminals allow the wires to be easily terminated to screw terminals, quick-disconnect/ spade-foot / fast-on type terminals, wire splices and various types of combinations. For suitable crimp tool, see stock number 267-3133

How to Crimp a Receptacle Connector

Strip the end of the wire and cut it to the same length as the terminal. Insert the stripped end into the barrel making sure no bare wire is visible. The connector is then ready to be crimped on to the end of the wire. Pliers or a ratchet tool can be used but, for a better quality crimp, it is better to use a ratchet crimping tool. A ratchet crimping tool is preferable as the handles will remain locked until a full crimp cycle is completed which will prevent partial crimps. Insert the barrel of the receptacle terminal into the appropriate crimping section (indicated by sizes marked on the tool). Squeeze the tool handles together until the ratchet releases. The crimped receptacle terminal is now ready for mating with a male tab terminal to form a secure electrical connection.
