Junction boxes form as part of the general purpose enclosures family and are units that are designed to accommodate a wide variety of items for secure and safe storage. They are often used for the protection of electronics equipment and often are compliant to IP, fire resistance and corrosion-resistant, dependant on what is being stored and where it is being stored. These enclosures are such versatile units, they can be used for practically any storage application, they can be wall-mounted if needed and they can be made from a wide variety of materials like aluminium, ABS, fibreglass and much more.

An IP rating classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact and water in electrical enclosures. The first number indicates the protection from solids and the second number is the protection from liquids.

This enclosure has an IP66 rating and offers the enclosure total protection from dust and debris and permits limited water and liquid ingress. This unit could be used outside, however regular checks are advised to ensure the enclosure still protects up to standard. With the fact that the junction box is made from GRP material, it also means the box itself can withstand extreme environmental conditions like long term UV exposure and rapid temperature changes, making it ideal for use outside.
