Polyphenylene Sulphide Film Capacitors

Polyphenylene sulphide film capacitors are types of capacitors(devices made of one or more pairs of conductors separated by an insulator, used to store an electric charge) where the dielectric (insulator) is made from polyphenylene sulphide (PPS).

Where are polyphenylene sulphide film capacitors used?

Polyphenylene sulphide film capacitors are the most common capacitor types for use in electronic equipment, and are used in many AC (alternating current), DC (direct current) and electronics circuits. They can withstand high temperatures and are therefore suitable for surface mount devices (SMD) – components which are placed directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB).

Polyphenylene sulphide film capacitors features and benefits

Polyphenylene sulphide capacitors are usually made with two plastic films as the insulator. Each is layered with a thin metal foil. Advantages of this construction type are easy electrical connection to the metal foil, and the ability to handle high current surges. They're also lightweight and compact, and suitable for reflow soldering – a process in which a mixture of powdered solderand fluxis used to temporarily attach one or several electrical components.
